Migrating IBM Netfinity Servers to Microsoft Windows 2000
IBM Redbooks
ADD TO CART
The Microsoft Windows 2000 Server family is the next generation of the Windows NT Server series of network operating systems. We have developed this redbook to help you and your organization prepare IBM Netfinity and PC servers to take advantage of the latest Windows 2000 platform improvements that are of particular concern to organizations seeking a cost-effective, networked computing environment.
This redbook describes how to implement the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server solution in your present environment with an easy understanding of the Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 migration process. This process includes the planning, configuration and migration procedures for updating several Windows NT 4.0 servers to Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server. There are two migration scenarios documented in this redbook. The first scenario demonstrates the migration of a single domain and the second describes the migration of multiple domains. Prior to performing a Windows 2000 migration, we discuss the hardware and software considerations that should be examined and specific activities that should be performed. Also discussed are the two most important features of Windows 2000, the Active Directory and Domain Name Server.
This redbook include examples of migrating a primary domain controller, a backup domain controller and stand-alone server to a domain controller and member server in a new Windows 2000 networked environment. IBM Netfinity complements your Windows 2000 network with its new suite of Intel-based servers designed to exploit the enhanced symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) scaling in Windows 2000 Advanced Server and DataCenter. Combined IBM and Windows 2000 becomes an even more powerful platform for business-critical applications, databases, and e-business services.
It is assumed that the reader of this redbook has had some education and work experience in local area networks using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server and Workstation.
