Direct Attach xSeries for the IBM e(logo)server iSeries Server: A Guide to Implementing xSeries Servers in iSeries

To address the demand for IBM e(logo)server iSeries and Windows server integration and consolidation, IBM offers iSeries-based solutions that provide for the management of Windows servers. The solution is the Integrated xSeries Adapter. IBM introduced this new product in 2001 as part of the V5R1 announcement. Prior to the V5R1 announcement, Windows integration was supported by an internal single processor PC server. With V5R1, this support has been enhanced with external adapters that connect xSeries servers.

The Integrated xSeries Adapter provides the high speed direct attachment of selected xSeries servers to the iSeries server. The adapter supports the Windows 2000 Server and the Windows 2000 Advanced Server running on the xSeries server.

The best features of the iSeries and xSeries servers are brought together via the Integrated xSeries Server for iSeries and Integrated xSeries Adapter offerings. Both of these offerings demonstrate the advantage of the IBM e(logo)server servers.

This IBM Redbook is designed for the planning and implementation community, including IBM technical marketing support, IBM Business Partners, and customers. It positions the Integrated xSeries Server for iSeries and Integrated xSeries Adapter products, and then goes on to provide detailed planning and implementation guidelines and notes. Plus, you'll find helpful advice and guidance in the planning and implementation chapters about HSL planning, integrating these servers into iSeries clusters, and direct attached server management.
