This document describes the connectivity options that are currently available
using the communications device managers on the PC Server System/390. It
focuses on various scenarios using SNA/APPN, TCP/IP, and LAN protocols; each
involving the PC Server System/390, AIX, DOS, OS/2, and UNIX workstations, as
well as an MVS mainframe environment, respectively. It provides a basic
understanding of the communications device managers, some SNA/APPN and TCP/IP
terminology that is used throughout the book, and a step by step approach on
how to set up the PC Server System/390 in different networking environments.
Setting up the PC Server System/390 for communications entails; working with
the PC Server System/390 Configurator, MVS Hardware Configuration Definition
tool, LAN Adapter Protocol Support, ACF/VTAM, ACF/NCP, TCP/IP, MVS/ESA, and
JES/2 definitions.
This document was written for IBM systems engineers and customer personnel
who are planning to implement the PC Server System/390 into a networking
environment. Some knowledge of MVS/ESA, JES/2, SNA/APPN, TCP/IP, and LAN
connectivity is assumed.
