DB2 for OS/390 Version 5 became generally available (GA) in June 1997. With releases prior to Version 5, almost all significant changes were delivered in new releases, rather than as service. The pace of business has increased, and we have many customers and vendors who need problems resolved much faster. To meet the pace of our customers and business, many important enhancements have been added through APARs and PTFs.

This redbook will help you to understand and exploit the new enhancements introduced on DB2 for OS/390 Version 5 after its GA code, such as: connectivity and performance improvements for network applications, improvements in parallel processing, faster processing, family compatibility, enhancements in utilities, and availability improvements.
