This redbook offers a broad discussion of networked applications on OS/390 UNIX Systems Services (OS/390 UNIX). OS/390 is the follow-on of MVS, which runs on S/390 hardware, commonly referred to as the mainframe.

This book focuses on current trends in open systems standards and TCP/IP networking as they pertain to OS/390. Thus, the focus is more on the newer UNIX and less on the traditional MVS side of OS/390. Topics are presented both to those with an MVS background learning the UNIX side of OS/390, and those with a UNIX background coming to OS/390 as UNIX systems administrators or programmers.

This book comes with a CD containing two tar files, one with many of the examples given (sg245447.tar.Z), and another with the customization scripts and open source software described (ioss390.tar).
