The increased proliferation of the TCP/IP protocol suite in networking environments that have traditionally been subarea intensive has increased the need to maintain parallel networks. From an economic perspective, maintaining parallel networks is costly. It is therefore desirable to converge on a single networking infrastructure, yet maintain the functional operation of applications that have already been deployed. It is quite clear that the growth of the TCP/IP protocol suite leads to the conclusion that the Internet Protocol is this selected networking infrastructure. This book introduces a migration strategy and illustrates its usefulness with a working scenario highlighting the most important aspects of configuration and interoperation. Finally, different techniques are discussed for improving overall system performance.
