Developing Applications for Component Broker on OS/390
IBM Redbooks
ADD TO CART
This IBM Redbook is written for application developers who use the Component Broker environment to build and run distributed object-oriented applications. It describes the Component Broker programming model and shows common tasks required to develop such applications. We present a sample application and guide readers through a typical development and deployment process using Component Broker 1.1 (S/390) and 3.0.1 (Windows NT).The book consists of four parts.
Part 1 describes concepts of CORBA, object-oriented development paradigms, distributed application architectures and the object framework used by Component Broker. This theoretical background is a prerequisite to understanding the development and deployment of Component Broker applications.
Part 2 covers technical issues. It explains how to tailor the development and runtime environments of the Component Broker infrastructure on NT and OS/390.
Part 3 presents a sample application (for our example we use an auction application) and takes the reader through the major steps associated with designing, building and running an object-oriented application with Component Broker on NT. It shows how standalone Java clients and Java applets on NT may drive the business logic of an auction server deployed on NT or OS/390.
Part 4 describes the steps necessary to deploy a Component Broker application developed on NT to OS/390. These steps cover the portion of the auction example that deals with auction messages. This part also shows how Java servlets and JSP files on OS/390 may act as clients to the partial auction server.
