Enterprise Integration with IBM Connectors and Adapters

Integration of enterprise applications is a critical part of e-business solutions. Many of today's solutions use simple connectivity to databases and transaction managers, but integration of legacy, ERP, CRM and SCM systems is becoming essential to maintain a competitive advantage. However, the difficulty of exchanging information between systems which have differing APIs, data models, and protocols means that integration is often hand-crafted.
IBM has a compelling set of solutions to the integration problem. IBM defined an overall architecture (the Common Connector Architecture - CCA) to enable the creation of snap-in connectors, which can be deployed on many different platforms. The concepts embodied in CCA have since been incorporated into JavaSoft's J2EE Connector Architecture, which is a component of the J2EE Platform Specification, V1.3. The architecture defines a common programming model and tooling so that applications can be built faster, cheaper, and with lower skills.
This IBM Redbook describes the background to the problem, explains the J2EE Connector Architecture and gives guidance on the choice and use of IBM connectors and adapters. It is intended to assist system architects, application designers, application developers, application deployers and administrators to successfully use IBM connectors and adapters.
Application developers can use the scenarios documented in this redbook to learn how to migrate their existing applications from using a CCF connector to a J2EE connector and to learn how to create a new application using a J2EE connector or the MQSeries Adapter Offering.
