Tivoli Storage Manager, the backbone product of the Tivoli Storage Management product set, is an enterprise-wide network storage management solution. Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.2 was introduced in June 2001 and is the successor to Tivoli Version 4.1 and Tivoli ADSM Version 3.1. It provides many exciting new functions such as journal-based backup, LAN-free backup for the Backup-Archive client, and SANergy exploitation using disk storage.

This IBM Redbook presents an overview of Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.2.
