Using Databases with Tivoli Applications and RIM

The Tivoli RDBMS Interface Module (RIM) is the interface that allows Tivoli
applications to support different RDBMS products. Without this support, each
Tivoli application would be responsible for handling the differences that exist
among the RDBMS-support products. The RIM provides the Tivoli
applications a common application programming interface to these database
products.

This redbook documents the information necessary to understand, support,
and troubleshoot RIM with various supported relational database products.

Hints and tips are included on how to implement RIM with Oracle and DB2
database products and with the Tivoli Inventory and Tivoli Enterprise Console
applications. Tivoli 3.6 pre-GA products are used in this redbook.

This redbook discusses the purpose and architecture of RIM, describes how
RIM objects are created and used by application programs, gives guidance
on troubleshooting common RIM problems, and discusses the differences
and peculiarities of different RDBMSs that RIM supports.

This redbook was written for the technical professional who must use the RIM
and supported RDBMS products with various Tivoli applications. Readers should be familiar with the Tivoli Framework, the Tivoli Inventory and Tivoli Enterprise Console applications, and with RDBMS products.
