IMS/ESA Version 6 Guide

This redbook provides information about the new features of IMS/ESA Version 6,
with special emphasis on how and when to use the new features in customer
environments.

This document addresses the needs of many different users of IMS. It contains
information of interest to systems and application programmers, database
administrators, and IMS operational staff.

Part 1, IMS Transaction Manager Enhancements contains
information of use to organizations that use IMS Transaction Manager. Included
are chapters describing IMS shared message queues, the common queue
server, advanced program-to-program enhancements, VTAM generic resources,
multiple system coupling limits, nondiscardable messages, IMS command
execution across the sysplex, the MQSeries-IMS bridge, IMS Web, and further
miscellaneous enhancements.

Part 2, ôIMS Database and Database Control Enhancementsö on page 123
describes fast database recovery, shared sequential dependent segments,
shared virtual storage option DEDBs, OSAM buffer caching, suppression of U113
abends, and Open Database Access, as well as further miscellaneous
enhancements.

Part 3, ôIMS System Enhancementsö on page 227 provides information about
daylight saving time and year 2000 support, image copy with DFSMS concurrent
copy, the enhancements to Remote Site Recovery, and a number of
miscellaneous enhancements.

A knowledge of IMS concepts and familiarity with earlier IMS versions are
assumed.
