IMS/ESA Data Sharing in a Parallel Sysplex

IMS/ESA Version 5 was the first MVS subsystem to
support data sharing in the Parallel Sysplex environment and IMS/ESA
Version 6 introduces many important enhancements. Both levels interact
with the new MVS workload manager. This publication focuses on the
implementation of the facilities associated with IMS/ESA in a Parallel
Sysplex environment and provides implementation guidelines,
recommendations, and migration options.

We explain the basic concepts of a parellel sysplex and how IMS takes advantage of
them to deliver N-way data sharing. We make you aware of the new
features of components such as IRLM
and DBRC and highlight some of the
performance and availability issues you should be aware of.

This document was written for systems, application design, database
administration, operations and performance people who are involved in
design, implementation, operation and tuning of Parallel Sysplex and
data sharing systems.

The intent of this publication is to provide the necessary information
to plan for your migration to IMS data sharing in a Parallel Sysplex
environment, with an understanding of the new enhancements to IMS and
other products and an appreciation of the configuration, design
recommendations, performance considerations, and implantation steps
involved.

Knowledge of IMS/ESA Version 5 in a non-data-sharing environment is
assumed.
