This document describes the IBM 3172 LAN Interconnect Controller.

It provides configuration and planning assistance for the use of the
3172 as a System/390 channel-attached host gateway for Local Area
Network workstations that use the System Network Architecture (SNA)
and Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) communication
protocols. It is intended to illustrate some of the common
implementation scenarios and related issues.

This document was written for customers, systems engineers, network
professionals and technical support personnel responsible for the planning,
installation, and customization of Host-to-LAN connections.

To obtain maximum benefit from the use of this document the reader
should have experience with and a solid understanding of SNA and/or
TCP/IP, network topologies and common data communications terminology.

It is helpful to have fundamental knowledge of OS/2, MVS and VM.
