DB2 UDB for OS/390 and Continuous Availability

This IBM Redbook describes how to achieve continuous availability in Version 6 of IBM DATABASE 2 Universal Database Server for OS/390 (later called DB2 UDB for OS/390 Version 6, or just DB2 Version 6). As many of the new features and functions have been made available as code refreshes for DB2 for OS/390 Version 5, we have included references to the APAR number, where appropriate.

This book provides you with a broad understanding of the components required in establishing an environment where on-line transactions, batch transactions, and DB2 utilities can run alongside one another with no detriment to the integrity of the data.

We assume that you already have an understanding of other system components such as hardware, OS/390 operating system, and data sharing availability, although we do describe how DB2 can make the best use of the many products and services available.

A number of professionals from IBM and customer sites across the world have joined forces to provide you with hands-on experience in establishing DB2 data sharing and applying DB2 maintenance while maintaining continuous availability. We also consider the use of DB2 in Disaster Recovery, and we describe how, with careful planning, time, and resources, a continuously available environment can be achieved.

This book will be especially useful for DB2 Administrators, DB2 System Programmers, IT Architects, and IT Management.

This book applies to Version 6 of DB2 Universal Database Server for OS/390, 5645-DB2. Make sure you are using the correct edition for the level of the product.
