IMS Version 7 Release Guide

This IBM Redbook is a release guide that contains all the new features and enhancements provided in IMS Version 7. We have documented the changes that have been introduced in this release.

The book addresses the needs of many different users of IMS. It contains information that will be of interest to systems and application programmers, database administrators, and IMS operational staff.

Part 1 gives an overall perspective on the enhancements provided. It indicates what has changed, and why the IMS customer will be interested in the details of each enhancement. It can be used as a management summary of the changes.

Part 2 highlights the major features in the new release. It includes overviews of High Availability Large Database (HALDB) and Java language support.

Part 3 covers enhancements related to IMS TM terminals and message queues. Some of the highlights are: Rapid Network Reconnect, ETO enhancements, VTAM Generic Resource enhancements, and SLUP terminal enhancements.

Part 4 covers enhancements related to the IMS Database Manager. Some of the highlights are: DEDB monitoring enhancements, change accumulation enhancements, batch backout enhancements, and several DBRC enhancements.

Part 5 covers enhancements related to base system functions and installation. Some of the highlights are: IVP, ACBGEN, logging, and ESAF trace enhancements.

Part 6 covers related products with IMS Version 7 support. This includes the newly announced IMS Connect product.
