OS/400 Operations Navigator is the graphical interface to manage your IBM iSeries runtime environment. V5R1 Operations Navigator contains major function and interface enhancements over previous releases. This IBM Redbook explains the Packages and Products function capabilities. It is the fourth volume in the Managing OS/400 with Operations Navigator V5R1 series and further explains the features introduced in Managing OS/400 with Operations Navigator V5R1, Volume 1: Overview and More, SG24-6226 . Key Operations Navigator functions that can be associated with the Package and Product functions include Application Administration, Management Central capabilities for scheduling and managing task activity, and creation and management of endpoint systems and system groups. These functions are discussed in Volume 1. Package functions make it easy for you to send and install multiple OS/400 objects on other iSeries servers. Most Package functions have been available to you even before V5R1. The Product functions under Operations Navigator are new with V5R1. Product support enables you to define and manage an application similar to the way IBM supports products and manages those products, including fix management on multiple systems. This can significantly assist you in minimizing the cost of deploying and maintaining your application on multiple iSeries servers.
