Deconstruct this Calculus 2 Journal

Deconstruct this Calculus 2 Journal

Welcome to Calculus 2! As a sequel to Calculus 1, it may not be what you're expecting. Integrals become stranger, sometimes involving multiple functions, sometimes diverging out to infinity. Derivatives appear on curves unlike the functions we've seen before. And infinite series return as much more than Riemann sums. While this all might be strange new territory, the Deconstruct style is the same. We make sure readers have intuition about, and technical skills to solve, every problem they encounter.

While you're welcome to beat your head against a wall until you figure out any of these subjects, our book encourages a variety of different approaches. Try a hands-on, physical activity to better understand why those integral bounds are what they are. Follow in the footsteps (that includes missteps) of Calculus's inventors to gain insight on why that one function behaves nicely out to infinity while that similar looking one is naughty. And, please, bring a friend. The best breakthroughs are shared.

The Deconstruct Calculus Series of interactive journals teaches calculus in a hands-on way. We have four principles. First, our books emphasize intuition. You might not have had a book tell you how natural many of the concepts behind the name “Calculus” are. The Deconstruct series is that book for every student who wants to—or has to—explore this subject we love. You’ll learn concepts before calculations and will understand rather than memorize. Second, Deconstruct books focus on you, the student (we provide answers to every question, examples are personal, problems are useful). Third, it’s DIY. You’ll be doing calculus, not just parroting equations and reciting theorems for a class. Fourth, the Deconstruct Series emphasizes collaboration. Calculus is better with friends.
