Why a Configurable Planner Sells Better Than a Fixed Format
A configurable planner does three things at once. It widens your audience, because a buyer who would have passed on a fixed format will buy a version tailored to how they plan. It raises your average order value, because configuration options carry premium tiers. And it keeps your upfront commitment low: zero on the print-on-demand path, or 25 units per cover design on the premium path.

Configuration Options: Cover, Layout, Calendar, and Sections
You design the configurations and decide which options to offer your buyers. The menu below shows the kinds of options creators commonly include. Your menu is not limited to this list. If there is a section, layout, or add-on you want to offer that is not shown here, we can produce it as long as you supply the file.
Cover options
Build-your-own planners offer two cover production paths. Print-on-demand covers require no inventory and are fully personalizable per order. Choose softcover at 12 pt, 16 pt, or 18 pt; poly paper; or a frosted poly overlay over softcover. Stocked covers require a 25-unit minimum per design and include hardcover in printed, faux leather, or linen; board covers in 24 pt, 36 pt, or 48 pt; and 10mil laminated.
Calendar and page layouts
You design the layouts and decide which configurations to offer. Common options creators include in their menu are Sunday-start or Monday-start weeks; 12-month, 18-month, or undated calendars; daily pages as vertical, horizontal, or two-page spreads; weekly pages as vertical columns or horizontal rows; and time blocking as hourly, half-hourly, or open.
Optional sections
You design the additional sections and decide which to include in your menu. Common options creators offer are goal setting, habit tracker, gratitude, meal planning, fitness or wellness, project planning, and note pages in lined, dot grid, or blank.
Format and add-ons
Trim size can be anything up to 8.5 x 11 inches. Binding is metal spiral or Wire-O, both produced on demand. Other binding methods we offer (disc punch, PUR casebound, Smyth sewn) require traditional print runs and are not part of the build-your-own program. Pocket folders and tabs are added on demand with no minimum. Elastic strap, ribbon, and pen loop are available on stocked hardcovers.
All interior options are produced from the PDF files you supply. Some products are a single PDF and others combine several. We help you map your file set to part numbers when we set up your program.
Personalized Covers with Per-Order Names and Quotes
For your buyers who want a planner with a name, initials, a quote, or a dedication on the cover, the print-on-demand cover path supports per-order personalization.
Your system creates a finished, print-ready cover PDF for each order with the buyer's name, initials, quote, or dedication already in place. You name the file with your order ID, and we print it exactly as supplied. See Sending a Unique Print File With Every Order for how to set it up.
How We Print and Assemble Your Build-Your-Own Planners
Your product mix determines which path each order takes.
If you offer only print-on-demand cover types (softcover, poly, frosted poly), every order is produced fresh: cover printed, interior printed, assembled, shipped.
If you offer hardcover, board, or 10mil laminated cover options, we stock those covers in your committed quantities and assemble to order. The interior is printed on demand and bound to the appropriate cover.
We assign a part number to each component when we set up your program. When an order comes in from your store, the part numbers on each line item tell us which components to pull or print, and how to assemble.
How Orders Reach Us
Every piece of your product has its own Vervante part number: one for each cover design, and one or more for the interior pages. Each order lists the part numbers that make up that buyer's product, and we print, pull, and bind it to match.
- Covers: a stocked cover is pulled from your inventory for each order. A print-on-demand cover is printed with the order.
- Interiors built from your layouts: each layout or section is set up once as its own part number. Your buyer's choices appear on the order as those part numbers, and we bind them together in the order set up for your program.
- Interiors unique to each buyer: your system creates a finished, print-ready PDF for each order and names it with your order ID. See Sending a Unique Print File With Every Order.
Some products are a single PDF. Others combine several, such as a stocked cover, a standard section, and a personalized section. We map your files to part numbers when we set up your program.
Orders can come from Shopify, WooCommerce, GoHighLevel, any other shopping cart, email, or our API. The order format and cart setup guides are on our Order Processing page, and fees are on our fee schedule.

The first line is the cover and the second is the interior. Add a line for each additional interior part. The order_id is required when the order includes a file unique to that buyer.
Lead Times for Build-Your-Own Planner Orders
All build-your-own planner orders ship in our standard 3 to 5 business day print-on-demand window. This applies whether the cover is print-on-demand or pulled from your stocked inventory.
If you are launching a new stocked cover design, allow about two weeks for board and 10mil laminated covers, and three to four weeks for hardcovers, for the initial 25-unit cover production. This is a one-time setup step. Once your covers are in our facility, every subsequent order ships in the same 3 to 5 business day window.

How long does it take to set up a build-your-own planner program?
Setup time depends on how many options you want to offer and whether you are using stocked covers. Print-on-demand-only programs can be live within days of receiving your files. Programs with stocked covers require about two weeks for board and 10mil laminated covers, or three to four weeks for hardcovers, for the initial cover production. Once your program is set up, individual orders ship in our standard 3 to 5 business day window.
