Custom dust jacket printing for hardcover books by Vervante

Custom Dust Jacket Printing

Handcrafted in the USA for authors, publishers, and creators

A custom dust jacket transforms a hardcover book into something customers want to display, give as a gift, and keep on the shelf. The detachable printed wrap adds a layer of design, protection, and shelf appeal, elevating any hardcover book.

We print custom dust jackets for novels, children's books, coffee table books, memoirs, photo books, and any hardcover where the cover deserves more than what is printed on the case itself.

Print as few as 25 dust jackets. Most printers require 100 or more. We can produce short runs starting at 25 pieces, with the same quality and finishing options available at any quantity.

Single-Sided or Double-Sided Printed Dust Jacket

Single-sided printing means your artwork prints on the outside of the dust jacket, including the flaps. The inside of the jacket stays blank. This is the most common option and works for most books.

Double-sided printing means we print artwork on both sides of the jacket. The outside carries the cover artwork and flap text as usual, and the inside becomes a second design surface. This is one of the most distinctive options we offer, and one most printers will not produce at short-run quantities.

Creators choose double-sided dust jackets for a few reasons:

  • Reversible jackets. Customers can turn the jacket inside out and display a different design on the shelf. Two looks in one product. A popular choice for special editions, limited releases, and collector pieces.
  • Hidden art and reveals. Character artwork, maps, illustrations, or behind-the-scenes content printed on the inside that fans discover when they take the jacket off. Especially popular for fiction, fantasy, and any title with a strong reader community.
  • Extended branded content. Use the inside for author notes, full-bleed branded color, additional quotes or reviews, or a continuation of the cover design.

Lamination and Finish Options

The finish you choose for your dust jacket shapes how it feels in hand and how the artwork reads on the shelf. We offer three lamination options:

  • Matte lamination gives a soft, understated look that reduces glare and lets the artwork speak quietly. A natural fit for literary fiction, memoir, and contemplative content.
  • Gloss lamination brings out vibrancy in color and detail. The classic choice for children's books, photography, and design-forward titles where the cover art should pop.
  • Soft-touch lamination has a velvety, almost suede-like surface that customers immediately notice when they pick up the book. A fit for gift-positioned hardcovers, keepsake editions, and any title where the tactile experience matters.

Enhancements: Foil Stamping and Embossing

A printed dust jacket can be enhanced with the same finishing options available on our other cover products. These details turn a good jacket into one that customers love and remember.

  • Foil stamping adds shine and value. Often used on the title, author name, or a single design element.
  • Embossing and debossing add a raised or recessed impression that gives the jacket a tactile dimension customers can feel before they read it.

Foil stamping and embossing can both be combined with any of our three lamination options.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for custom dust jackets?

We can produce custom dust jackets in quantities as low as 25 pieces. Most printers require 100 or more. Our low minimum makes Vervante a fit for limited editions and short runs.

What lamination finishes do you offer?

We offer three lamination options: matte, gloss, and soft-touch. Matte gives a soft, understated look that reduces glare. Gloss brings out vibrancy in color and detail. Soft-touch has a velvety, almost suede-like surface that customers immediately notice when they pick up the book.

Can dust jackets be foil stamped or embossed?

Yes. Dust jackets can be enhanced with foil stamping. They can also be embossed or debossed for a raised or recessed impression. Foil stamping and embossing can both be combined with any of our three lamination options.

Can you print on both sides of the dust jacket?

Yes. Dust jackets can be printed single-sided (artwork on the outside only) or double-sided (artwork on both the outside and the inside). Double-sided dust jackets are popular for reversible designs where customers can turn the jacket inside out to display a different look, for hidden artwork and reveals that fans discover when they remove the jacket, and for extended author notes or branded content. Most printers do not offer double-sided printing at short-run quantities.

How long does dust jacket production take?

Production time depends on your finishing choices. Standard laminated dust jackets typically produce within 10 to 15 business days. Jackets with foil stamping, embossing, or other custom finishes may take longer. Have an event or launch date? Tell us, and we will plan production around it.
