If you would prefer a cover that prints your full design directly onto the book boards, see our printed case wrap hardcover books instead.
This kind of cover is the right choice when the book itself is meant to feel like an heirloom, a gift, or a flagship product. Some of the creators we most often work with on these books include:
A tip-on cover image is a printed photo, illustration, or piece of artwork that is bonded directly onto the front cover of a hardcover book. Some creators call it a mounted image, a tipped-on cover photo, or an inset cover image. Whatever you call it, and whatever kind of image you choose, it is one of the most beautiful finishing options we offer.
Here is how the process works:
The result is an image that sits flush with the surrounding cover, framed by the texture of the cover material itself. The matte fabric or leather and the smooth, color-rich printed image create a contrast that the eye catches immediately and the hand notices before the brain even processes it.
Where tip-on cover images shine: memoirs, photography books, coffee table books, art and illustration books, anniversary and commemorative editions, signature and limited editions, family histories, legacy projects, and high-end coaching workbooks.
Tip-on covers pair beautifully with foil stamped titles, debossed elements, ribbon markers, and printed endpapers. We are happy to walk through placement, image size, and pairing options together.
Binding compatibility: Tip-on cover images can be added to hardcovers with PUR binding, Smyth sewn binding, Wire-O binding, or metal spiral binding.

What is a tip-on cover image?
A tip-on cover image is a printed photo, illustration, or piece of artwork that is bonded into a debossed recess on the front of a hardcover book. The image sits flush with the surrounding cover material, framed by the linen or faux leather around it.
What is the difference between faux leather and faux linen?
Faux leather has a smoother, grained texture that reads as classic and traditional. Faux linen has a woven fabric texture that feels more modern and tactile. Both are durable and pair well with foil stamping, debossing, and tip-on cover images. If you would like to compare them in your own hands, please request swatches of both materials and we will send them to you.
Can I combine foil stamping and a tip-on cover image on the same book?
Yes. Many of the most beautiful books we produce include both, with a foil-stamped title above or below the tip-on image and sometimes additional debossed elements. We are happy to help you plan placement so the elements work together.
What is the minimum quantity?
Our minimum is 25 copies. Many creators start there as a way to launch a book without overcommitting, then reorder as sales grow. Send us your project details for a quote and we will give you pricing across several quantity tiers so you can see how cost scales with volume.
Can I order a sample before printing my full run?
Yes. We strongly recommend it. Tip-on cover images and faux cover materials look and feel different in person than they do in photographs. Because every tip-on is unique to your design, we do not stock generic samples of tip-on products. Instead, we recommend ordering a printed proof of your own book so you can see exactly how your image, foil, and cover material come together before you commit to a full run. We can also send swatches of our faux leather or linen materials upon request so you can compare textures and colors as you finalize your design.
What types of books work best with these materials?
Memoirs, novels, family histories, photography and coffee table books, signature workbooks, anniversary and commemorative editions, devotionals, and any limited edition where the book itself is part of the experience.
