Custom Pocket Size Books and Booklets Printed in the USA

Custom Pocket Size Books and Booklets

Small format. Big impact. Printed in the USA.

Pocket size books are one of the most underrated products a creator can offer. They are easy to carry, easy to use, and easy to give away or to sell. They cost less to produce than a full-length book. And because they actually get used, they create a daily, hands-on connection with your customer that a larger book often does not.

For 25 years, Vervante has helped creators print small books and booklets in any size, with any page count, in quantities that most printers will not touch. Whether you are creating a daily devotional, a coaching tool, a companion booklet for a card deck, or a takeaway from a speaking engagement, the pocket size format earns its place in your product line.

Why a Pocket Size Book Works

The biggest advantage of a pocket size book is something that sounds almost too simple. It gets used.

A book that lives on a shelf is not the same as a book that lives in a bag, a backpack, or a coat pocket. Pocket size books travel. They get pulled out at airports, on lunch breaks, and on retreat. They become part of how the reader moves through the day. That kind of repeated use builds a relationship between creator and customer that is genuinely hard to manufacture any other way.

A pocket size book is also approachable. A 200-page book is a commitment. A 32-page booklet is a yes. For first-time customers especially, the smaller format lowers the bar to engagement and makes your work easier to share.

You Do Not Have to Write a Book to Publish One

One of the most useful things about a small book is that it does not require you to sit down and write a book.

If you are a coach, a speaker, an educator, or anyone with an established body of work, you almost certainly have content that would translate beautifully into a pocket size book. A few examples of what we see creators do:

  • A signature keynote, transcribed and laid out as a 32-page booklet that doubles as a takeaway and a top-of-funnel product
  • A curated set of your best newsletter or blog pieces, pulled together and organized around your framework
  • A methodology or process presented visually, with worked examples and space for reflection
  • A collection of public domain wisdom such as Stoic philosophy, New Thought writers, or classical poetry, with your own foreword and section introductions
  • Quotes and insights pulled from your interviews, sessions, or community over the past several years

The format does the heavy lifting. Beautiful design, considered layout, and durable construction turn content you already have into something a customer holds onto.

What We Print

We print small books and booklets in just about any size and any page count you can imagine. The combinations are flexible, and we are happy to walk you through what makes sense for your project.

Sizes

3.5 x 5 inches (true pocket size), 4 x 6, 5 x 7, and 5.5 x 8.5 inches (half-letter) are our most common sizes. A6, A5, and other custom dimensions are available on request.

Binding and page counts

Saddle-stitched and center sewn booklets run from 8 to 52 pages. Both work well for shorter booklets, with center sewn offering a flatter open and a more durable feel. Spiral and wire-o are best for workbooks and reference guides that need to lay completely flat. Perfect bound books, with a clean bookstore-ready spine, run from 20 to 400 pages.

Covers and finishes

Softcovers are available in 12 pt, 16 pt, or 18 pt stock. Board covers in 24 pt, 36 pt, or 48 pt give the book a sturdier feel. Lamination and UV coating add durability. Rounded corners help prevent wear from pockets and bags. Foil stamping adds a premium finish.

Designing for a Small Format

Small books reward thoughtful design. A poorly designed small book is harder to read than a poorly designed full-size book, because there is less room for error. A few things to keep in mind as you lay out your project.

Font size matters. We recommend a body font in the 9 to 11 point range. Smaller than that and your reader is straining. Larger than that and the page feels crowded.

Margins are not wasted space. They give the reader somewhere to hold the book, and they keep the type from feeling claustrophobic. Generous margins on a small book are the mark of a well-considered design.

Less on the page, not more. The instinct with a small format is to cram in more words to make up for less paper. Resist it. White space and short blocks of text are what make a small book feel premium and easy to use.

Plan for durability. A book that lives in a pocket gets bent, dropped, splashed, and stuffed into bags. Rounded corners, lamination, and a heavier cover stock all extend the life of the product and signal quality from the moment your customer picks it up.

What Creators Are Making

A few examples of how creators are using pocket size books in their product lines:

Coaches use small books as welcome gifts in client onboarding kits, or as paid leave-behinds at workshops and retreats. The book signals care and craft from the first interaction.

Speakers print signature-talk booklets that double as a takeaway for event hosts and a top-of-funnel product for new audiences. The talk is content they have already polished from delivering dozens of times.

Course creators bind their workbook, quick-reference guide, or daily-practice booklet as a small book that ships with the course. The physical piece elevates the perceived value of a digital product.

Authors create pocket size companions to a longer book, with discussion questions, exercises, or curated quotes from the original work.

Educators print field guides, reference cards, and curriculum supplements at quantities that big book printers will not handle.

Tarot, oracle, and affirmation creators bundle a guidebook with their card deck to deepen the customer experience and support a higher price point.

A Perfect Companion to a Card Deck

One of the most natural uses for a small book is alongside a card deck. A companion booklet expands what a deck can do, and most printers cannot produce both products in the same run.

A guidebook explains each card and gives the reader a deeper experience. A reflection booklet pairs prompts and journaling space with the deck. A small instruction booklet explains how to use the cards and travels with the deck inside the box.

We print and package both pieces together in a tuck box or a two-piece rigid box, which means your customer receives one finished product instead of two. Read our complete guide to creating a card deck →

Why Vervante for Small Books

Many printers will not take on small books at low quantities. The setup is the same as a larger run, the margins are smaller, and the production is more demanding. We print these because we have been doing it for 25 years and because they are a natural fit for the creators we serve.

That means you can order quantities that match your audience, your launch, or your budget, without being forced into a larger run than you need. It also means the same team that prints your book can package it, fulfill it, and ship it directly to your customers.
